Pepsico Robotic Cartoning & Case Packing

Objectives

TEG scoped and implemented a project to provide automation of muesli bar cartoning and case packing at a Pepsico site. Seven European suppliers of packing technology were evaluated and industry-leader Schubert were selected to supply a robotic pick and place system for both applications. Bar line speeds of 50 per minute were accommodated by the system which included a top load cartoner with a race-track system. The total project value was $ 2.0m. As a second stage TEG were later responsible for installation of a bar buffer system after the high speed flow-wrapper and prior to cartoning.

Challenges

As with most food factories large range of products produced on a single line which required multiple sets of change parts. Also following the installation of the new packing line, a full range of new product development projects were undertaken to take advantage of the new technology.

Results

The project was delivered on time, under budget, without incident and it achieved the required benefits of reduced headcount and manual handling.
